Battle for Second Intensifies

The battle for runners up spot intensified last week with Aughton Institute A and Northern Club A both winning 5-1 to remain locked together on 51 points, 4 points adrift of Formby Club B who have a game in hand. Aughton A didn't have it all their own way against Flanagans though with captain Rob Radford losing a safety battle with Dan Radcliffe on a re-spotted black, Dan potting a cracking cut back to green pocket to claim the frame. Earlier Stan Hughes and Shaun Catterall had shared more than 20 superb safety exchanges on the black before Stan claimed the win. Plenty of breaks here too, Andy Jones 30 & 27, Shaun Catterall 28 and Pete Bennett 20. Northern A won a competitive mnatch at Our Ladys A where Dan Mycek maintained his excellent form with a narrow defeat of Andy Cowperthwaite. Karl weeks and Jon Mycek Jnr. shared breaks of 20 in their encounter which Karl narrowly won. Northern Club B can probably feel hard done by after coming away with no points against Aughton B. Anthony Coyne had opportunities to win before losing on the black to Harry Boydell whilst Jack Snaylam lost a low scoring frame against Mark Rimmer on a re-spotted black.
